Limit the amount of candy the kids are allowed to get - let's say 10 pieces.

If they get more than 10 pieces they need to find a way to give some of the candy away.

1). Give a piece to elder neighbors - with some preplanning, dress up in the costume and take it to your shut-in neighbors and let them see the kids dressed up.

2). Take it to a local nursing home and handout 1 piece per resident.

3). Destroy the candy and so something creative with the wrappers.

Carilion Clinic nutritionist Martha Ross also suggest counting carbohydrates when it comes to diabetic children.
