The rest stop in Botetourt County welcomed motorist from all over; Louisiana, Florida, New York and Tennessee just to name a few. Cloudy skies and rain for most drivers was the reality as they traveled.
“I think it's been fine considering the holidays. I'm sure there is a little heavy traffic but 81 was a piece of cake,” said Margot Hastings.
“It was raining when I left, when I got this far here. It's dried up pretty much so it's not too bad,” Corey Gary.
Some drivers say they encountered delays, heavy rain and even snow from some northern boarding states. Some travelers say Virginia wasn't a bad drive weather wise.
Most people are returning home from their holiday vacation others are trying to dodge winter weather all together by heading south.
“We're heading down there for a couple of months, we're retired. You got to live somewhere, might as well live in Florida for the winter,” said Dave Holl.
