HARDY, Va. -

Roanoke Valley Horse and Rescue (RVHR) sits on a little more than 20 acres in Hardy, Virginia.

When owners can no longer take care of their horses or when animal control removes them from a home, that's when RVHR steps in.

Right now, there are 53 horses that are in need of a good home and the organization is in need of volunteers.

Whether you're an expert with horses or you've never touched a horse in your life, there is plenty of work to go around.

Raymond Wyckersty works at the organization and he says they also train their volunteers to work well with the animals. "We need help with landscaping, yard work, repairing fences, tree removal around the outsides, and even stuff inside the office. We could even use folks to help organize fundraisers."

For basic care, it cost $150 per month for each horse. Total, that's $5,000 a month.

If you'd like to learn more about this organization they're having an open house on May 31st and June 1st, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 1725 Edwardsville Road in Hardy.

There will be food, vendors, a 50/50 raffle, and you'll get a tour of the facility and get to meet the animals.
