There's a new highlighting technique called balayage that's trending fast for 2014. This color is a hand painted highlight with more of a natural look with no harsh lines from natural to colored hair.

Co-Owner of Thomas Dunn Studios in Roanoke Drew Dunn says some stylists are trying to get away from the dip dye look because it tends to look harsh.

Some women want a fresh look but are too afraid of cutting their hair too short. Dunn says it's best to ask your stylist to add short layers but keep long layers throughout the hair for a less dramatic look.

Another hot hair trend for 2014 is the pixie cut. Popular actresses with this hairstyle include Jennifer Lawrence, Halle Berry, and Charlize Theron. This cut is sassy and sexy but comes with very low maintenance.

A trending cut is the inverted bob, especially with lots of bold colors. This cut and color depends on your lifestyle and work environment.
