More than 216,000 Virginians picked health plans in the new insurance marketplace.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services released final enrollment figures.
The federal data shows many Virginians who signed up for coverage are older, though about 39 percent are under 35 years old.
More than half are women and 82 percent are getting financial help to pay their monthly premiums.
A surge in enrollments since March 1 doubled sign-ups in some states, including Texas, Georgia and Florida.
