DANVILLE, Va. -

The Danville Area Humane Society is offering a reward for information about a puppy that was abandoned at a dumpster site in Danville.

Someone noticed the abandoned pit bull/Lab mix puppy curled up on a blanket at the Mount Hermon dumpster site Wednesday.

The puppy is thought to be about five weeks old.

Humane Society Director and humane investigator Paulette Dean says many cats have been left at the Mount Hermon dumpster site.

Abandoning a companion animal is illegal, Dean said in a news release.

The puppy was apparently too young to be able to survive on its own.

He was taken to the City of Danville animal shelter, where he’ll be held for five days and then will be placed for adoption.

Anyone with information about the puppy should call 799-5306.
