WASHINGTON, DC -

U.S. Senator Tim Kaine says improving job prospects for veterans is one of his top priorities in Washington.

Kaine's first bill in the Senate was the Troop Talent Act, which is designed to ease the transition of service members from active duty to the civilian workforce.

The legislation would help veterans translate their military skills into civilian credentials.

"People who serve shouldn't be exiting military service after sacrificing in Iraq and Afghanistan and not having jobs," Kaine told us in a recent interview, "so I'm working a lot on strategies to help our military folk get traction back into the civilian workforce."

Last week, Kaine announced another bill that would raise standards for veterans' education and job training programs.
