MONETA,Va. -

The refrigerators and freezers at the Lake Christian Ministries are full. The organization hasn’t been able to give the food items away to those in need. The recent snow forced the doors to close.

“They depend on us for food during the month,” said Executive Director Edward Reynolds.

The organization is usually closed on federal holidays but will be open Monday which is President's Day.

“We feel we need to open up on Monday and we're trying to get the news out to the clients so they understand that were going to be open Monday,” said Reynolds.

Reynolds says for some families, the food that's given out is about 20% of their household food for the month. He says its money that can be saved for other household bills.

“Clients, when they come in for food are welcomed to come in and get the clothing they need for themselves and for their families,” said Reynolds.

The group also helps by providing emergency financial assistance.
