Roanoke County has the thumbs up to invest millions of dollars into a city facility to help train the men and women who serve in our area.

The Roanoke Board of Supervisors approved an Operating Agreement with the City of Roanoke to share costs for Roanoke County Criminal Justice Training Academy on Tuesday night.

The city currently trains law enforcement officers at a facility located on Barns Avenue.

Roanoke County's Police Department and Sheriff's Office have been training in a facility along Cove Road, but it's out of date and overcrowded.

The new building will expand by about 8,000 square feet and will include new classrooms, technology, offices and exercise facilities.

No word yet on when it will be completed.
