ROCKBRIDGE CO., Va. -

Two people are dead after a taxi cab ran off of Route 39 and caught on fire on Monday afternoon in Rockbridge County.

State police say Cyrus Greg Carawan, 28, of Lexington and Joshua Allen Murphy, 26, of Harrisonburg died at the scene.

The crash happened around 3:45 p.m., just west of Route 803.

According to state police, Murphy was driving the taxi when it ran off the road and hit a tree. The cab caught on fire, and Murphy and Carawan were trapped inside.

Neither man was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

The Virginia State Police are investigating what caused the taxi to run off the road.
