ROANOKE, Va. -

If you want to get the most out of your tax return, you won't have to go very far.

Roanoke's Total Action for Progress, also known as TAP, is making sure people and families keep the money they work so hard for in their pockets.

If you make less than $51,000 a year, you can get your taxes done for free.

TAP's free tax service clinic is in full swing right now. The local agency is bringing in people, who have been trained by the IRS, so they can prepare your taxes and submit them electronically.

TAP is in its 12th year of providing this to people who need it most.

Organizers said they see more people every year using the services.

"A lot of folks come in and they are really surprised by their refund amount because they did not expect to receive what they normally receive,” said Teffany Henderson with TAP Financial Services.

Any interested and eligible person should call 540-283-4804 to schedule an appointment.

On the day of the appointment, you must bring:

• Photo ID

• Original Social Security card for themselves, spouse, and all dependents (NO copies are allowed)

• W-2’s and 1099s

• For direct deposit, bank account information (copy of a check)

• Child care provider’s name, address, and federal ID number where applicable

• Student loan interest statements where applicable

Services are done at The Dumas Center located at 108 Henry Street in downtown Roanoke.
