Parishioners at Christ Lutheran Church aren't letting the sanctuary walls stop them from reaching those in need.
"I think coming to church is just a small part of being the church. I think being the church is actually being out there and sharing the church with your community," said Greg McCorkindale.
Members of the Grandin Church are celebrating the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America 25th Anniversary with wheelbarrows in tow.
"We're not a private club. We are the hands of God. We are the workers in the kingdom helping to share God's love," said Pastor David Skole.
The group is sprucing up a community playground by adding mulch. It's not just the adults that are involved in the service, but also the youth.
"Not everybody has the chance to do what we're able to do, so if we do if them, they get something out of it," said church member Laura Latimer.
While some members were tending to the play ground others are making snack packs for school kids. They're nutritious snacks sent home with kids for the weekend.
"When you help somebody like that, it means even more to you, because as you're giving; you're actually getting more back in return and it makes you feel good that you’ve done work and you actually help somebody," said McCorkindale.
"This is a congregation that loves to lift up the needs of others; we're always trying to help not only our membership but also our community and the world beyond,” said Skole.
The ELCA has more than 4,000,000 members in nearly 10,000 congregations.
