Locally-based furniture retailer opens new location in Bedford
Virginia Furniture Market is hoping to bring in new customers from Lynchburg and Forest with its "express" store in Bedford
A business that's made its home in Franklin County for years is expanding.
Virginia Furniture Market now has an "express" location in Bedford on Independence Boulevard. It's smaller than the company's main store on Route 220, but offers many of the same items.
Owner and president Joel Shepherd says he's been selling furniture to people in Bedford for years and thought it was time to give them a store of their own.
"We had a good base of business here, but we felt like a physical presence here would build on that," said Shepherd. "We felt like we could also draw customers to Bedford from Lynchburg, much like we do out of Roanoke to Franklin County."
The new location is making use of a building that's been empty for more than five years, when Lynchburg-based Taylor Brothers closed its construction supply store.
Shepherd is already making plans to add on to his new Bedford store, if sales prove to be strong.
