A man who changed the face of higher education and helped people find jobs in the region retired Wednesday.

Carlyle Ramsey was President of Danville Community College for 21 years.

Today he finished cleaning out his office and saying goodbye to his staff.

This year he helped the school raise seven million dollars, the most the school has ever received at one time.

Ramsey's main focus was workforce development.

His staff says he's helped thousands of people find work while advancing programs and departments at DCC.

"You can't do that without great faculty and staff. You can't do it without having relevant programs, and it helps to have facilities," said Ramsey. "And I would say for Danville Community College, the best is yet to come."

Bruce Scism is replacing Ramsey Thursday as president of DCC.
