Lynchburg leaders hope a weekend festival will encourage more people to visit a city park.

A group called "Share the Parks" is hosting an event Saturday called Music at Miller.  Bands and local artists will perform at Miller Park beginning at 3:30 in the afternoon and food will be available from a variety of vendors.

Share the Parks was formed last summer, following a violent event at a sporting event.  The group is trying to create a positive presence at Miller Park that will entice more families to use the facility.

"Our true message is that our parks, trails, and recreational facilities are some of the greatest assets Lynchburg has and we want folks to come out and enjoy them," said Kay Frazier, director of Lynchburg's parks and recreation department.

Share the Parks will also hold a back to school event in August.  Admission is free to all of their activities.
