Lynchburg's new tourism director won't have to travel very far to take on the job.

Sergei Troubetzkoy has served as the tourism and welcome center director for Bedford County since 2007.  He will now perform a similar job for the city of Lynchburg.

Troubetzkoy has decades of experience in the hospitality and tourism industry, having run programs in Staunton and Petersburg before moving to Bedford.

Lynchburg leaders conducted a five-month, nationwide search to find a new tourism director.  Most of the city's former tourism staff resigned earlier this year, when the city canceled a contract with the Lynchburg Regional Chamber of Commerce.  The chamber was contracted to operate the city's tourism program.

Former tourism director Beckie Nix is now running a tourism consulting service known as "Prototype Tourism" in Forest.  Troubetzkoy begins his new job in Lynchburg July 2.
