Hathaway had a 4.5 grade-point average in high school, and attended Liberty University on a full scholarship to study business.

Merriott says she was not aware of any behavioral issues with Hathaway.

Residential Annex II is at the site of the former Quality Inn. Students living in the dorm were allowed to come and go Tuesday morning as police completed their investigation. They were escorted around the crime scene. Liberty University is housing hundreds of students there while construction is underway on several high-rise dorms on the main campus.

Some of the students we talked with complained about a lack of communication from the university about what was happening. They didn't receive any official notification about the incident.

"I was a little bit shocked that we didn't receive any contact from the university, telling us what was going on," student Sean Boden said.

Liberty University says they didn't send out the campus alert because police told them students were not in danger.

Residential Annex II is about 3.4 miles from Liberty's main campus.

Falwell Jr. said he will address students Wednesday at convocation in the Vines Center.
