Lynchburg schools launch new marketing strategy to promote public education
Teachers, parents, and former students are explaining how Lynchburg City Schools helped them achieve success.
Some prominent people in Lynchburg are sharing their stories to promote public schools.
It's part of a campaign called "My LCS Story." Teachers, parents, and former students are explaining how Lynchburg City Schools helped them achieve success. Their stories are posted on billboards throughout the community, and on a website set up by the school system.
The marketing strategy is designed to make Lynchburg City Schools more attractive to families. More than a quarter of all school-aged children in the city, nearly 4,000 kids, do not attend public schools.
"We know people have choices," said Lynchburg City Schools superintendent, Dr. Scott Brabrand. "They have choices to get a cup of coffee. They can pick an airline to fly on and they have choices around their schools. We're asking them to take a second look at what Lynchburg City Schools does."

Although "My LCS Story" is a large-scale, multi-platform effort, LCS spokeswoman Cindy Babb said the campaign is not costing more than any other marketing effort the school system has launched in the past.
