A Lynchburg couple is proudly welcoming the region's first baby of 2014.

Noelle Gray Wooldridge arrived at 1:20 Wednesday morning at Virginia Baptist Hospital.

She weighs 6 pounds, 15 ounces.  Her parents were expecting her on a holiday, but not New Year's Day.

She was due at the end of December, so her family thought she'd arrive on Christmas.

"We just figured that she was going to come on a holiday," said Noelle's mom, Jordan Wooldridge.  "It's going to be fun.  Everyone is going to be counting down to her birthday from now on."

Noelle is the second child for her parents.  They have a son at home.

For delivering the first baby, the Wooldridge family is getting gift certificates to a Lynchburg salon, a baby gym, Mary Kay, and the hospital gift shop.

Salem's first baby of the year was born at 8:14 a.m.  Gavin Nicholas Ruben was born to Amber Sanders at Lewis Gale Medical Center.

So far, Lynchburg can claim this year's New Year's baby for the WDBJ7 viewing area. No other hospitals are reporting births that came before Noelle Gray's at 1:20 a.m. Wednesday.

Check back later on New Year's Day to meet Noelle's mother and find out the baby's last name.

She was born at Virginia Baptist Hospital in Lynchburg. She weighs 6 lb, 15 oz, and she's 19.5 in.

Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital reports a birth around 4:15 a.m. making that child Roanoke's New Year's baby. The hospital hasn't released any more information about the baby.

Lewis Gale Medical Center in Salem reports a woman in labor, but no New Year's baby there yet.
