Battling cancer is never easy, but some Lynchburg-area women are proving you don't have to fight alone.
They've formed a "team" to support a friend with the illness, and they've managed to recruit a few celebrities to join their cause.
Pam Nance was diagnosed with breast cancer in August and had a double mastectomy in September. Since then she's faced a few unexpected struggles.
Nance underwent surgery to receive breast implants, but she was allergic to the material and had to have them removed. Two weeks ago she underwent a second surgery.
The surgeries and associated medical expenses have been difficult for her family, and that's why friends have formed a group called "Team Pam" to help her out.
They're holding a fundraiser and silent auction later this month, and all of the proceeds will go to Nance.
Sandy Mayberry has worked her connections to get donations from famous people. So far she's managed to get an autographed football from Peyton Manning, and a magazine cover signed by Dale Earnhardt Jr.
NASCAR driver Kasey Kahne even signed a piece of metal from one of his race cars.
"This (fundraiser) is just a small token of what you can do to help someone else out," said Mayberry. "We just want to help Pam and her family out."
Christian recording artists Charles Billingsley and Jason Crabb, and football coaches Frank Beamer and Mike London will also have autographed items at the auction. There will also be gift cards from dozens of restaurants and businesses.
The event is Saturday, March 22 from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Thomas Road Baptist Church.
Tickets are $10, which includes for a barbecue dinner.
