DANVILLE, Va. -

After staying closed for more than a month, a Danville post office is back open.

The Main Street Post Office closed in the beginning of December.

It failed a Safety and Health Inspection by the U.S. Postal Service.

A spokesperson told WDBJ7 chipping lead paint caused the closure. Crews spent the last month and a half removing the old paint and putting a new non-toxic finish.

In December the Danville City council signed a resolution asking for it to reopen because of the developing downtown area.

It's hours are now 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
