AMHERST COUNTY, Va. -

A suspect in a 2004 murder in Amherst County has been returned to Virginia.

Alex Raymond Valerio was arrested on an outstanding warrant recently in Baltimore. He is accused of killing Phillip James in January 2004. James was found dead on River Road in Madison Heights.

Valerio waived extradition. He was taken to the Blue Ridge Regional Jail on Wednesday. He is being held without bond.

Valerio is scheduled to be advised of his rights Thursday through a video linkup.

A man wanted for a 2004 murder in Amherst County is in custody in Baltimore, Maryland.

The Amherst County Sheriff's Office says Alex Raymond Valerio was arrested on an outstanding warrant.  He is accused of killing Phillip James in January 2004.  James was found dead on River Road in Madison Heights.

In a news release, deputies said Valerio was believed to be living in New York City until his arrest in Baltimore.
