HENRY CO., Va. -

A man is in jail pending charges for robbing a bank in Martinsville earlier this month, and police say he’s also responsible for three other bank robberies in several states.

George Gaunt, 25, of Louisville, KY has been identified as the person responsible for a bank robbery at Carter Bank and Trust in Martinsville and for three other bank robberies.

According to a news release, the Martinsville bank robbery took place around 2:49 p.m. on October 8. A man came into the bank and walked up to a teller, handing over a note that demanded money. He was armed with a semi-automatic pistol. He then fled on foot with an undisclosed sum of money.

According to a news release, Gaunt was responsible for robbing Carter Bank and Trusts and three other banks including one in Augusta County, Virginia, one in Linn County, Iowa, and one in Blue Earth County, Minnesota.

Gaunt is currently incarcerated in the Blue Earth County, Minnesota jail under a $500,000 bond.

The court in which the case will be prosecuted is undetermined at this time. Charges are pending this decision.

Henry County Sheriff’s Office worked with the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office in Virginia, the Linn County Sheriff’s Office in Iowa, and the Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Office in Minnesota in addition to the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the United States Attorney’s Office to solve this crime.
