BOTETOURT CO., Va. -

A man is facing attempted murder charges after he threatened and assaulted two people with a hammer Wednesday night.

It happened in an apartment building north of Troutville just before 8:30 p.m.

Troutville resident Patrick Bryant, 54, was angry about a dog barking. According to a news release, he went outside with a hammer, threatened two people and said he was going to hurt them and the dog.

Witnesses say he tried to hit both people with the hammer. That’s when they overpowered him, took the hammer away and restrained him until deputies showed up.

Bryant was taken to Botetourt County Jail. He is charged with two counts of attempted murder and is being held with no bond.
