Thanks to the citizens and local businesses, the Town of Marion is hosting the traditional fireworks on the Fourth of July. Marion Town Council voted to provide a base amount of $2,000 for fireworks in May, and asked the community to help foot the bill for the show. Twenty-two donations came in, from local citizens and businesses to a long-distance donation from a couple in King and Queen County, bringing in another $3,000. Now, the Town is set for a show on Independence Day.
The fireworks are set for Thursday, July 4th at dusk at Marion stadium, and admission is free. The show will be coordinated to patriotic music played over the sound system, so the citizens are encouraged to come to the stadium for the full effect.
The program is the kickoff to the Independence Weekend Celebration that includes a free concert on Broad Street Saturday evening, sidewalk sales, and special activities at participating businesses all weekend long in Smyth County’s Courthouse Town.
