A young man from Martinsville is in jail tonight, charged with beating a woman.

Officers got a call of a fight in progress along the 15-hundred block of Stultz Road just before 1:00 p.m. Monday.

They found that 18 year old Shantez Hairston had assaulted 27 year old Monchell Witcher.

They saw scratches, cuts, and many swollen areas on her head from the assault.  She's being treated for her injuries at the hospital.

Shantez Hairston facing felony charges of abduction and malicious wounding.  He's is being held without bond in the Henry County Jail.

On September 30, 2013 at approximately 12:43 p.m., the Martinsville/Henry County Emergency 911 Center received a call of an assault in progress at 1556 Stultz Road Martinsville, Virginia.

Officers arrived on scene and discovered that Shantez Teyon Hairston, had assaulted Monchell Nicora Witcher, 27.

At one point in the altercation, Hairston pulled Ms. Witcher by the hair from the front of the residence to the rear of the residence.

Ms. Witcher sustained scratches, cuts and had numerous swollen areas on her head from the assault.  Ms. Witcher was transported to the Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County and is currently being treated for her injuries.
Shantez Teyon Hairston was arrested and charged with one felony count of abduction, one felony count of malicious wounding and one misdemeanor count of resisting arrest.  Hairston was jailed in the Henry County Jail without bond.
