A deputy with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office was assaulted around 1 a.m. Friday while in pursuit of a man.
The deputy was called to a physical domestic disturbance at the 500 block of Brake Road in the Elliston area.
After arriving to the residence, the deputy saw Gary Baker on top of a woman attempting to choke her.
The deputy told him to stop and tried to put him in handcuffs. Baker punched the deputy in the face and ran.
The deputy chased Baker into a mobile home where they began fighting. During the altercation, Baker bit the deputy’s thigh, hit him with a two-by-four and punched him several times.
Another deputy arrived to help arrest Baker.
Baker is charged with four felonies. They include aggravated malicious wounding and assault on a law enforcement officer. He also faces four misdemeanor charges.
Baker is being held in the Montgomery County Jail without bond.
