There are more ribbon cuttings and grand openings at Smith Mountain Lake as the crowds grows larger. Vicky Clarke thought it just made sense to open up her own business not too far from the lake.

“I make scents on site, my candles on site, my bath and body works on site, very fresh,” said Clarke.

Clark says after five years of researching different cities, she chose the lake. She recently just held an open house for Just Made Scents. A big reason for her decision was the area's population growth.

“I see it as a growing opportunity. The community is really close-knit. It's like everybody knows everybody the word of mouth is fantastic,” said Clarke.

Many other business have opened along the lake and more are on the way. Annette Stamus is the marketing and communications manager for the Smith Mountain Lake Chamber of Commerce.

“I say since 2012, I've really seen a lot of new businesses and new growth out here,” said Stamus.

Those who work with the chamber say every year, more and more people stop by the visitor's center, and there's a reason for the influx.

“There's lot to do around here I don't care if it's from going out to eat, to going out on a boat,” said Stamus.

In the meantime business is good even if its 30 years in the making.
