MONTGOMERY CO., Va. -

Glen Chilcote, a music teacher at Kipps Elementary School, has been named the Montgomery County Public Schools 2014 Teacher of the Year.

Chilcote has worked at Kipps since 2009. He teaches music to students in grades kindergarten through fifth, and is the director for five extra-curricular instrumental ensembles.

“Glen makes kids love music,” said Chris Widrig, the principal at Kipps Elementary. “He is a master at engaging students. His classroom is full of students who are focused while they learn the many elements that go into making music, including song, movement and rhythm. We are proud that he is teacher of the year for Montgomery County Public Schools.”

Glen Chilcote, music teacher at Kipps Elementary School, was announced as the Montgomery County Public Schools 2014 Teacher of the Year today. Chilcote has worked at Kipps since 2009 teaching general music to kindergarten through fifth graders and serving as the director for five extra-curricular instrumental ensembles.

Every school selects a Teacher of the Year for their building to compete in the MCPS Teacher of the Year competition. Chilcote was selected from all of the building Teachers of the Year to win this award and will move on to the Regional Teacher of the Year competition.

Chilcote earned a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from West Virginia University and a Masters of Education from Virginia Tech. This is his second year being nominated for the Kipps Elementary School Teacher of the Year. He is also a Gunild Keetman Fund Grant Recipient.
