ROANOKE, Va. -

Today is National Children's Mental Health Awareness Day.

There's a special event marking the occasion in Roanoke involving parents, mental health professionals and others who work with kids.

Participants will have lunch, and watch the film, "Hear Our Voices."

It tells inspiring stories of nine children and young adults who are dealing with mental illness, and also highlights the high costs society pays when those with mental health issues don't get the treatment they need.

Diane Kelly, the Executive Director of Mental Health America of Roanoke Valley, says half of all mental health problems begin before the age of 15.
