LYNCHBURG, Va. -

America's best softball players will share their talent with young athletes in our region this summer.

The United States Woman's National Softball Team will visit Lynchburg June 13 and 14.

The Hill City event is the first stop of a 2014 exhibition tour.  The team will host a double-header at Lynchburg City Stadium Friday night, where they'll take on local athletes coached by Dot Richardson.

Richardson is a two-time Olympic gold medalist and head coach of Liberty University's softball team.

She was instrumental in bringing the national team to Lynchburg.

"These are the elite women's softball players in our country," said Kay Frazier, director of parks and recreation for the city of Lynchburg.  "We're so excited to bring this to Lynchburg to highlight women's softball and recreation in general."

While the national team is in town, they'll host a clinic for girls ages 6 to 18.  That event is June 14, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Peaksview Park.

Tickets for the exhibition game are now available through the Lynchburg Hillcats website.
