AMHERST CO., Va. -

Sixty-eight people have been indicted in Amherst County after a long-term undercover drug  investigation.

Sheriff’s department officials wrapped up the investigation Thursday. Multiple arrests were made.

Four vehicles worth an estimated $90,000, seven weapons, and $5,000 in cash were seized during the investigation.

The suspects arrested have a total of 192 charges. The Amherst County Sheriff’s Department says a number of suspects were making deals within 1,000 feet of a school. This places an additional felony charge per drug transaction.

Authorities have been targeting area drug dealers and distributors since December 2013 when the investigation began.

The suspects arrested Thursday are being held at the Blue Ridge Regional Jail, Amherst County Adult Detention Center to have their bond hearing.
