New gym opens for Roanoke City Sheriff's Office employees
Jail employees in Roanoke city will be able to save some money on gym memberships.
Originally, the space was a line up room for suspects, now it's a gym.
But, at the end of last year, the sheriff's office started the process of converting the room.
A wall was torn down and a door constructed.
Now there are weights and cardio equipment so deputies can workout whenever they want.
"It kinda gives something to the guys who are not able to afford a gym at a 50-dollar rate or 30-dollar rate -a chance to come here and work out without having that other burden on them as far as finances," says Deputy James Murphy of the Roanoke City Sheriff's Office.
There are approximately 250-employees in the Roanoke City Sheriff's Office.
The sheriff says the project cost about 8-thousand dollars.
