A new match-making program in Martinsville is pairing people in need with people who can help.
My Time Banks allows people to make a profile of specific skills and time availability.
Others can log on with a specific need, say a ride to the doctor or help doing homework and get paired with someone who can help.
It's a "neighbor helping neighbor" program through the Southern Area Agency on Aging.
"What we're trying to do is get the community and people away from government assistance and have the community helping the community. It's a pay it forward kind of system and mentality," said Brooks Jones with the Southern Area Agency on Aging.
Floyd and Charlottesville also have My Time Banks.
The area United Way is encouraging people to sign up with the program in preparation for the annual Day of Action where volunteers spruce up neighborhoods.
