Both lanes of Interstate 81 North in Botetourt County are expected to re-open at 1:30 p.m.
An accident Friday morning at mile marker 167 damaged the asphalt. One person was taken to the hospital.
One person is in the hospital after a vehicle fire on Interstate 81 in Botetourt County on Friday morning.
The northbound lanes are blocked at mile marker 167.8, which is near the Lee Highway exit.
Drivers should expect delays. As of 11:15 a.m., traffic is backed up two miles.
As a result of the fire, the asphalt in the area was heavily damaged and will need to be repaired before the lanes can reopen to traffic.
Crews estimate they will have the right lane open to traffic at noon today and will then move on to the left lane.
The Virginia Department of Transportation doesn't know when the left lane will reopen.
Drivers should avoid the area if possible, or take Exit 162 as a detour.
The wreck happened around 5 a.m.
