Christiansburg police are looking for the owner of an injured dog that was found early Monday morning on Roanoke Street near Starlight Drive.

The dog is a female toy poodle with apricot-colored fur and is believed to be about 10 years old.

After animal control was unable to assist with the situation, the dog was taken to the Town and Country Veterinary Clinic in Christiansburg where it underwent emergency life-saving surgery for its injuries.

According to Christiansburg police, the dog may have been attacked by a larger dog or possibly hit by a car.

Veterinarians at Town and Country Veterinary Clinic say the dog is doing well, but will require additional medical attention.

“This is a fairly unique situation for the Police Department to get involved in, but it felt like the right thing to do to give her a chance at recovery,” said Public Relations Director Becky Wilburn in a news release.

“Because she wasn’t wearing any tags, we have not been able to locate her owner. Until then, we are referring to her as ‘Peeti,’as in Christiansburg P-D,” she said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Town and Country Veterinary Clinic at 540-382-5042.
