RADFORD, Va. -

As many college freshmen move into their dorms, some may find them a little more cramped than usual.

Most colleges and universities overbook on-campus rooms to avoid empty rooms due to students dropping out or simply never showing up.

At Radford University 140 students are currently living three to a dorm room. The University says this happens every year and students affected were alerted prior to moving in

"Radford University has a commitment to all freshmen,” said Associate Vice President of Student Affairs Irvin Clark.

“Our goal is to have all freshmen living on campus their first year. We do on occasion put students in triple room assignments with the goal of getting them out within two to three weeks of the semester starting," Clark explained.

This year's freshman class at Radford University is over 2,000 students.
