ROANOKE, Va. -

At least twice in the past two weeks, National Football League Commissioner Rodger Goodell has made comments suggesting Washington should look at changing the name if its football team.

For years, some American Indians have said the Redskins team name is offensive

We asked people in downtown Roanoke what they thought.

"To me, it's a tradition, I don't think it needs to be changed," said Ed Lunsford.

"I understand it, everybody views life through their experiences, and when they do that, they may have some emotional investment in seeing it as derogatory, I don't have an emotional investment in seeing it as a derogatory statement," said Al Hubbard.

Redskins owner Daniel Snyder says he won't change the name and it's ultimately up to him.

Here's what you had to say on Facebook:

"Though I am not personally offended, I can completely understand why someone would be. I think a good compromise might be to keep the logos and colors the same but rename the team the Washington Warriors."- Evan Malone

"Too much political correctness today making the US a plain country that doesn't honor it's history." -Sandy Saunders

"I personally do not think it's offensive, keeping in mind however, I am not American Indian."  -Bob Hicks
