The First Fridays on Franklin Concert Series is in full swing.
Mother Nature has certainly made herself known this summer, but it seems like she hasn’t been able to stop the music.
Organizers are now trying to beat the heat with misting fans and cold beer.
Friday night’s show marks the sixth show for the summer series.
After Southern Culture on the Skids performs, Roanoke is more than halfway through the schedule.
All the proceeds raised throughout the summer will go to local charities in Roanoke. Organizers say it’s been a really good year. The numbers are actually up from last year when they averaged about 1,400 people.
“It probably depends more on the bands more than the time of year,” said First Fridays President David Camper. “The more people that come out here thirsty, the more money we make for the charities.”
Despite the rain and wind storms, only one show has been cancelled this summer.
