ROANOKE CO., Va. -

Rain didn't keep people away from helping needy kids.

Radio station Q99's "Pack the Bus" event had people buying and donating school supplies before the summer's even finished!

The annual event teams with Walmart stores around the region to collect school supplies for students in need.

This year, "Pack the Bus" will benefit 23-different school districts.

"There's a tremendous need for school supplies. And, to be honest, the need gets bigger, and bigger and bigger every year. We all know with the economy has been like and because of that more and more people every year are struggling and parents just can't afford to buy school supplies for whatever reason, that's where Pack the Bus comes in," explains Roanoke County school spokesman Chuck Lionberger.

If you missed Wednesday's event, there are several others over the next couple of days.
