ROANOKE, Va. -

August is here, and that means it's time to go back to school shopping.

Virginia's annual sales tax holiday runs Friday through Sunday, and parents can get good deals on school supplies, clothing and shoes.

School supplies that sell for $20.00 or less per item, as well as clothing and footwear selling for $100.00 or less per item will be exempt from sales tax.

Kristopher Taylor of Freedom First Credit Union recommends families budget carefully for back to school shopping, just as they do for the holiday shopping season.

Taylor says it's important not to just turn around and spend your sales tax savings on something else.
