A Lynchburg elementary school is teaming up with the United Way to feed disadvantaged students.
Paul Monro Elementary is partnering with the United Way of Central Virginia's Young Leaders Society.
The young leaders will raise money to support Paul Monro's "kids pack" effort.
15 students benefit from the program, by receiving a backpack full of nutritious food on weekends and school holidays.
"Parents have been sending in donations, but in the past couple of years it has become very difficult backpacks for all of our children," said Donna Baer, principal of Paul Monro Elementary. "The need continues to grow every single year and we have more and more parents requesting backpacks."
The Young Leaders Society will pack the bags every week and deliver them to the school.
The effort is part of Lynchburg City School's "Partners in Education" program.
