This weekend marks the 50th Anniversary of the March On Washington. A group from our area is walking in the NAACP march Saturday.
This weekend marks the start of a week long celebration, honoring the 50th anniversary of the March On Washington.
A group from our area is leaving in less than eight hours to be part of the National Association of Colored People March.
Elizabeth Jones, a youth coordinator for the Pittsylvania County chapter of the NAACP, helped organize the trip.
Her mother marched for equality 50 years ago in Washington.
This year she's planning to march in her mother's footsteps.
"It should be a memory that I'll have for a long time, to be able to make the 50th after my mother made the first," said Jones.
The group is leaving early Saturday morning and the bus is full.
The 50th anniversary of the March on Washington is next Wednesday.
