Original story from Friday, April 19

Roanoke Police continue their search for the man they say opened fire on the Greenway Friday night.

Police say just before nine Friday night a man pulled out a gun on the Greenway, injuring another person. This happened near the Ramada Inn on Franklin Road.

“It's very scary because this feels like such a safe environment,” said Lisa West.

It's an area home to joggers, bicyclers and skaters. Those who frequent the Greenway say they never expected something like this happen.

“When you start hearing about people pulling dumb stuff, it just makes you want to go why?” said Donald Plankey.

It's leaving police asking the same question, along with wanting to know who pulled the trigger. Police say they are looking for a man wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt. They also say the victim has non-life threatening injuries.

“We had planned yesterday to walk the upper part of the Greenway today, and we both kind of looked at each other and say do we really want to that now, because it made us a little bit nervous about coming back out,” said Joann Wade.

Police were also out patrolling on the Greenway by way of car and bicycles.
