ROANOKE, Va. -

The Roanoke City Police Department has released how many people were arrested on New Year's Eve for drinking while under the influence.

According to reports, one person was charged this year.

Last year, officers arrested two people for DUI.

Seven people were charged in 2011-2012 and three were charged in 2010-2011.

A spokesman with the Roanoke City Police Department said the steady decrease is a result of their work to deter people from drinking and driving and saturation patrols.
