The lane re-opened at 2:45 p.m., according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.
VDOT crews are still working to repair pavement on I-81 North between mile markers 138-140.
Northbound traffic is slowed up all the way back to mile marker 128.
This project was scheduled to be completed overnight.
An overnight paving project on Interstate 81 did not go as smoothly as planned.
One northbound lane of the interstate between mile markers 138 and 140 will remain closed Wednesday until it can be repaired, according to a news release from the Virginia Department of Transportation.

SALEM – The right lane of northbound Interstate 81 in Roanoke County between mile markers 138 and 140 currently is closed.
Last night, a contractor with the Virginia Department of Transportation was paving on northbound I-81 with the nighttime work expected to be completed this morning. However, there is a problem with the new pavement that will have to be corrected before the lane can be reopened.
No estimated time for reopening the lane has been established at this time. Drivers should expect delays or seek alternate routes.
