MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Va. -

An expansion at Rackspace's operation in Montgomery County could create up to 100 additional jobs.  The company and the governor's office announced the expansion Monday morning.

The project includes $5.5 million in construction and improvements.

Rackspace is a cloud computing and IT hosting company and has about 4,800 employees worldwide.  In Monday's news release , Governor Bob McDonnell said Virginia's data center business is booming.

“Virginia remains one of the most active data markets in the country, and Rackspace’s Montgomery County cloud computing operation is thriving,” McDonnell said in a news release. “The Commonwealth is a prime location for data centers, offering companies both an advanced broadband infrastructure and a highly skilled technical workforce. I look forward to Rackspace’s continued growth and the creation of new high-tech jobs for the New River Valley region.”
