The Virginia Department of Transportation is putting a detour in place Wednesday night to clear a tractor-trailer accident.
The ramp from Interstate 64 East to Interstate 81 North will be closed starting at 8 p.m. Wednesday. The ramp is located at I-64 Exit 56, and Exit 191 on I-81. The detour could be in place until 7 a.m. Thursday.
One lane of Interstate 81 North at mile marker 191.5 will also be closed because of the cleanup from the tractor-trailer accident.
Traffic from I-64 East headed to I-81 North will be routed to the I-81 South on-ramp at I-81 Exit 191. Traffic will use continue on I-81 South to Exit 188A at Route 60 in Lexington, and pickup I-81 North from there.
Detour sings will be in place.

Interstate 81 northbound will have a detour tonight (July 30) as part of operations to clear a tractor trailer accident from earlier today. This location is near Lexington in Rockbridge County.
Work will begin at 8 p.m. and may last until 7 a.m. The ramp from I-64 eastbound onto I-81 northbound will be closed. This is located at I-64 exit 56 and I-81 exit 191.
Traffic from I-64 eastbound heading northbound on I-81 will be routed to the I-81 southbound on-ramp at I-81 exit 191. Traffic will proceed southbound on I-81 to exit 188A at Route 60 in Lexington. Traffic will use exit 188A to access the I-81 northbound lanes. Detour signs will be in place.
A left lane closure will be in place on I-81 northbound at mile-marker 191.5, which is where the tractor trailer clean up is located.
