BEDFORD CO., Va. -

The real estate tax in Bedford County will increase for the first time in 12 years.

The Bedford County Board of Supervisors approved the two-cent increase in a 4-3 vote on Monday night. In 2015 the real estate tax will raise from 50 cents to 52 cents per $100 of assessed value.

The increase will add an estimated $1.5 million to the proposed budget for 2015.

Supervisors Curry Martin, Bill Thomason, John Sharp, and Steve Wilkerson voted in favor of the increase. Steve Arrington, Tammy Parker, and Annie Pollard voted against it.

A three-cent increase was originally proposed.
