SALEM, Va. -

Harsh winter weather in other parts of the country has cancelled 35 blood drives nationwide.

But Monday, people in the Roanoke valley stepped in to help.

For all the people in the giving mood, the Red Cross Donorama in the Salem Civic Center was holiday themed.

The blood will go to the local hospitals first.

The rest of the pints will go to other places in the country where blood drives were cancelled because of severe weather.

As usual, the Red Cross says every little bit helps, especially this time of year.

“We've just been behind. People are not donating as much and during the holidays everybody's busy,” Dahl Brown said.

The blood drive ended at 6:00 p.m. Monday.
